The thing I will always tell when Einstein's accomplishments are mentioned. He did all his greatest work while working with his first wife and mathematician Mileva Maric. Maric in fact did all the hard math. She deserves the recognition and should be mentioned together with Einstein. Her career and life went to shit after Einstein deserted her and their two sons. But thank you for this very informative video! Never seen this history been discussed anywhere before!

As a Swede i had some Jewish classmates and and i think it is sad to hear that antisemitism even still exists. I dont hear any of it in my group of friends or in my profession and i think that most of it have been coming with migrant from the middle east, and i really hope that the gouvernment will make it clear that antisemitism is not accepted behavior in Sweden.

Being an American video, you may be excused from mentioning that Pershing didn't want any of his American troops participating in the battle of Le Hamel. 4,000 American troops were supposed to take part, but in the end, only 2,000 took part. General Pershing wanted to draw the war out until 1919 when he would have all of his troops available.

2:11As a Dane, I consider it an honour when even speakers of Semitic languages find our language to be throaty ;) ps. note that this is a joke, and I know that the "Danish" of the 900's was very different to what it is today, and what I mean by "throaty" is just the amount of post-velar sounds.

To add to the Danish history: The Danish kings in the 1600s, Chr. IV, Frederik V, and Chr. V were mainly interested in the possibility of borrowing money. The Jewish merchants cleverly required access to Denmark, and better conditions for Jews in Denmark, in return for granting the loans. Oh, and it was specifically only Sephardic Jews who got the right to live in Denmark in the 1600s. Which means that the original Jewish community in Denmark, are not Ashkenazi like most other Northern European Jews. And since these Jews were granted access as the guests of the king, they were also under his protection. A rule that is still in effect, and which the modern Dansih monarchs take seriously.

The "anti-Semitic" rating is bullshit. anti-Semitism is way worse in Sweden. No Jew in the Nordics would seriously think that Sweden is as this survey show "the least antisemitic" country in the world.

  • @lokalkakan

Note that at 13:00 when emancipation is denied by the peasentry its important to note that Sweden never had a fuedal society. "Peasentry" in Sweden were just farmers and by the 1700 hundreds reform act they owned the land they farmed. Essentially Swedens system was a precursor to a representative democracy. So why care? Well the blocking from the farmers is significant since it shows how widespread antisemitism was since the majority of the population (farmers) were blocking it in parliament. ( The Swedish parliment was divided between farmers, merchants and nobility)

Just to be clear in 1847 Sweden still had the estat riksdag system, but unlike on the continent we had 4 estets, Prest, Nobel, Farmer, bourgeoisie. (On the contitnent Famer and bourgeoisie was just the "third estate"). So for any major change any estate could veto it, thats why they needed the suport of the farmers estat. The estat riksdag was abolished in 1866 and replaced with a two chamber system. And the two chamber was replaced in 1971 with just a one chamber riksdag.

These days it's about half Ashkenazi and half Israeli. The Jewish community is tiny and everyone knows each other. I used to go to Copenhagen for shabbat so know all the Danish Jews too haha. Additional fun fact, my grandpa's family were the only Jews in Greenland. Cool to see you make a vid about Scandinavia!

hello non Jewish Dane here wanted to learn a bit more on Jewish history in the Nordic countries, just wanted to give you a couple of examples on how Danish Jews have shined, the world famous Danish Jewish designer and Architect Arne Jacobsen (design is almost a religion in Denmark Arne is the no 1 God in that area) Arne have build many important building s in and outside Denmark public and private among them the National bank of Denmark, , City hall Århus Denmark, a beach area north of Copenhagen called Bellevue, the Danish Ambassy in London, Radisson blu hotel Copenhagen plus private housing, ST Cathrine's college Oxford, he is even more famous for his furniture like the Egg and Swan Chair and many more he ended up designing everything in Radisson Blu Hotel down to the cutlery , another famous Danis Jewish designer was his close friend Poul Henningsen famous for his many lamps like PH5, the "artichoke" lamp and many more, a few years ago it was estimated that about 50% of Danish households has 1 or more of Pouls lamps! , many homes also have Arne Jacobsen chairs especially model 3107 is very common in the average Danish home, Arne and Poul escaped to Sweden during WW2 and returned to Denmark after to continue their work their designs are exported all over the world. There may be other of the very famous Danish designers and architects who were Jews but I only know that Arne and Poul was, we don't talk much about religion in general in Denmark unless there is a reason, I only know that Arne and Poul was Jewish because Arne was once asked about escaping to Sweden with Poul and their wife's
